Gallarate è situata ad appena 40 km (N.O.) da Milano ed a 5 km. (E)
dall'Aeroporto Int. di Malpensa. Fu fondata intorno al II sec. a,C.
probabilmente da tribù galliche (una tomba gallica fu scoperta nel cuore
della città). Il suo stesso nome richiama l'antica origine (dal vocabilo
latino Gallus che è anche il suo emblema). Conquistata dai romani,
divenne una roccaforte e nel Medio Evo passò sotto il dominio del ducato
di Milano. La città ha assurto importanza per le sue industrie
manufatturiere (cotone) sorte ovunque già negli scorsi secoli ed oggi la
sua economia si fonda prevalentemente sul terziario, industrie tessili e

in the center of the city). Its name
also
recall the ancient origin (Gallarate
sounds
like the latin word Gallus that means
"cock",
and the cock appears in its banner).
Conquered by the romans, become a fortress
and after the Middle Ages was tied
to the
destiny of the duchy of Milan. The
city was
important for its manufacturing industry
(cotton) arisen all around since the
last
century and nowadays its economy is
based
on trade, metal and textile industries,
and
also jeweller's wares.
