Probably the most accurate site in the world on this matter

Why Chess Art...

I love chess and art as well. Casually I took a great interest in chess paintings. I've discovered that - errors excepted - there was no exhaustive database of authors and works . If somebody would try to repeat the same research he will soon perceive that many informations mentioned in many books and websites are defective, poor and - often - inaccurate . I searched some paintings in museums where - according to certain sources - they have to be, but I've not found any. Nobody have seen them. At this point, gradually, I began to realize the database in which I inserted only the sure things on the authors, their works and about the place where they are preserved. I let undefined only the elements on which it was not possible verify the exactness. I want this long (hard) work is freely shared to all people who wish walk thru the art for understand chess history in the human life.

Thanks to...

First of all, my sincerely thanks to the people who freely helped me in this research, sending images or data. I wish to thank also the people who didn't helped me. Probably they have not understand the spirit that breathes this hard research I've carried on without any commercial purpose. I dont want accuse nobody: each of us has own limits.

Warnings

Informations and culture

Whereas it was possible I tried to link a pop-window with a little image of the painting only for simple illustrative purpose. This work has not the aim to offer great images. Thumbnail size was chosen to give a simple idea of the paintings, so visitors can see that picture is really consistent with the argument and, at same time, in respect of all people who trade paintings, books, catalogues or posters. I tried to be respectful for everyone, driven by two personal convinctions: each artist works to let his work of art to the history and to the culture to be shared by humanity and  only from this knowledge can grow the passion that brings many people to visit museums and study history and art as well. Finally it makes live the things that, otherwise, will end lost in oblivion.
